Maj (Pol) Wilmar Marpaung

An indictment for crimes against humanity, read in a Dili court in October 2001 over the Passabe massacre of 10 September named Wilmar Marpaung as one of those who had initiated the activities of the Sakunar militia that carried out the massacre, by his attendance at a rally inaugurating it on 1 May 1999. A policeman under his command, Gabriel Kolo, was among those indicted over the massacre.
Marpaung was appointed to this position in June 1998. After East Timor he became district police chief in the city of Gorontalo, North Sulawesi.
