Lautem Junction - 25/09/1999 - Murder of a church delegation of nine in Lautem district

On 25 September 1999, three weeks after the ballot result had been announced but before Interfet troops reached the Lospalos area, Tim Alfa militia commander Joni Marquez led an attack on a church delegation at Lautem Junction. The delegation was travelling to Baucau. Of the nine killed, two were nuns, one was a chance passerby who refused to join the attack, and one was Indonesian journalist Agus Mulyawan. The bodies were dumped in the river.
